Chart showing 27 Nakshatras in a circle with Moon and Zodiac signs explaining Nakshatra meaning
I’m going to talk about..
So hello my friends! Welcome back to my new blog.
Today I am going to talk about a topic that is the “Heart and Soul” of Indian culture. Its Called Nakshatra.
You must have heard this word many times in you life. When a baby is born, the grandmother asks, “Which Nakshatra is he born in ??” When a marriage is fixed, the pandit G says , “Thier nakshatras are matching.” When someone dies, people ask, “Was it a Panchak nakshatra???”
So, what is this Nakshatra??? Why is it so Powerful???
In Western Countries ( Like, America or UK ), people only care about “Sun Sign” (like if you are born in august, you are Leo). But in India, our ancient Rishies (sages) were very smart. They knew that the sun sign is too broad. its not enough to know to know a person completely.
To know the real secret of a human being, you need to look at the Moon and the Nakshatra.
I am going to you in very deep, i will explain everything about Nakshatra. I am going tell you the story, the science, the difference between Rashi and Star. And i will also give you a list of all 27 Nakshatra with their meaning.
This is the long post, so sit down with a cup of tea and read slowly. it will change the way you look at the sky!
1: The Beautiful Story of the Moon
In India, we teach difficult things through stories. The story of Nakshatra is very interesting.
In our Puranas, it is said that King Daksha (a powerful King) had 27 beautiful daughters. These daughters were very shining and lovely.
The Moon God (Chandra) want to marry them. So, King Daksha married all his 27 daughters to the Moon.
These 27 daughters are 27 Nakshatras.\
The Moon is very traveler. He promised King Daksha that he would spend equal time with all his wives. So, the Moon travels the sky and stay with one wife(one Nakshatra) for one day.
- Day 1, he stay with Ashiwini.
- Day 2. he moves to Bharani.
- Day 3, he goes to Kritika. ….and so on.
In 27 days, he finishes visiting all wives and star the circle again.
But there was a problem! The moon loved one wives very much. Her name was Rohini. She was the most beautiful and charming. So, the Moon started spending more time with Rohini and ignored the other.
The other 26 wives complain to their father, King Daksha. Daksha got very angry and cursed the Moon to fade away (become small). That is why we see the Moon getting smaller (Waning) and bigger (Waxing) every month.
In this story we learned the movement of the moon. Nakshatra are basically the “House” or “wives” of the moon in the sky.
2: The Science (Don’t Worry, No Hard Maths!)
Now, let’s talk in the scene of Science.
Imagine the sky is a big pizza or circle. A full circle is 360 degrees. In Astrology, we divide this pizza into two ways;
1. The Big Slice (Rashi / Zodiac Sign): If we cut the pizza into 12 big slices, each slice is 30 degrees. These are the 12 Rashis like Aries, Taurus, Gemini, etc.
Problem: A slice of 30 degrees is very big. Millions of people are born in one Rashi. They are not all same.
2. The Small Slice (Nakshatra): Our Rishies said, “No, need to be more pricise.” So, they cut the same pizza into 27 smaller slice. Each slice is 13 degrees and 20 mintues.
The small slice is called a Nakshatra.
The “Google Maps” Example: Think of your address.
Rishi is like your city (eg…., Mumbai).
Nakshatra is like your Street Name (e.g., M.G. Road).
If I want to find you, just knowing "Mumbai" is not enough. I need the Street Name. Similarly, just knowing your Rashi is vague. Knowing your Nakshatra gives the exact location of your luck.
3: The 4 Padas (Quarters) – Zooming In More
Wait, there is more! Even the street is long, right? So, each Nakshatra is further divided into 4 parts. These parts are called Padas (or Charan).
- Rashi = 2.25 nakshatra.
- 1 nakshatra = 4 padas.
This is the deepest level of zoom. If Rashi is City, and Nakshatra is Street, then Pada is your House Number.
When a baby is born, the Pandit G calculates even the Pada. “He is born in Rohini Nakshatra, 2nd Pada.” This level of detail is why Indian Astrolgy is so accurate. It can predict things that Western astrology cannot.

- Nakshatras: Ashwini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Shravana, Revati.
- Nature: These people are kind, soft, and follow rules. They forgive easily.

- Nature: Don’t get scared by the name! It does not mean they are evil. It means they are Strong. They have high energy. They can fight back. They are stubborn. They are good for politics or business where you need to be tough.
Why is this important???
Astrology says a Deva person should marry a Deva person. If a Deva (soft) marriage a Rakshasa (hard), there will be misunderstanding. The rakshasa will dominate, and Deva will cry. That is why Gana Milan is checked before the marriage.
6: How Nakshatra Decides Your Life
Your nakshatra is not a just stamp. it is a seed. The tree of your life grows from the seeds.
1. Naming (Naamkaran): Every Nakshatra has 4 sounds.
- Example: If you are born in Revati, your name should start with De, Do, Cha, or Chi.
- Why? Because when someone calls your name, that sound creates a vibration. If the sound matches your Nakshatra, you get positive energy every time someone calls you.
2. Career:
- Ashwini people make good doctors or athletes.
- Chitra people make good fashion designers or architects.
- Magha people make good managers or politicians. Knowing your star helps you choose the right job.
3. Health: Each Nakshatra rules a body part.
- Aries (Ashwini) rules the Head.
- Pisces (Revati) rules the Feet. If your Nakshatra is attacked by bad planets, you will get pain in that body part.
4. Marriage (Nadi Dosha): This is the most dangerous thing in marriage matching. The 27 stars are divided into 3 Nadis (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). Rule: Husband and Wife should NOT have the same Nadi. If they have same Nadi, their health will suffer, or their children will have problems. This is calculated purely based on Nakshatra.
